After years of watching my dad run for 24 hours (and thinking he was totally nuts) it only seemed natural that I follow in his footsteps. Yep, after four marathons I thought to myself, huh, well why not try running an ultra-marathon. Because that is the totally sane thing to do. Just for reference an ultra-marathon is anything over 26.2 miles. Yeah, people run even farther than a marathon for fun.
There’s always that question of why? Why do you run? I know people wouldn’t ask this question if I was just a casual runner who ran 3 miles everyday. I know they are really asking why in the world would you put your body through the kind of pain and torture of running an ultra-marathon. So why do I run? Well I can tell you that eating strawberry ice cream and fried pickles guilt free is just one of the 100 reasons of why I run.
Yep, I know just by the title every runner just cringed. There’s a negative stigma that comes along with a DNF. For those that don’t know what a DNF is, it stands for Did Not Finish. It’s pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a runner. And it happened to me.
